WebGear's Roots in the Car Wash Industry

From WebGear Studios

By Jeffrey V. Lemire

November 8, 2008

WebGear's Roots in the Car Wash Industry

WebGear Studios' expertise in car wash internet marketing comes from deep family roots in the industry dating back to 1968. Jeffrey V. Lemire notes that he personally operated two car wash locations for several years. The Lemire family's involvement in carwashing extended across three generations, including Lawrence G., Ronald D., Dick, Roy, Ruthie, Rene, Ray, and Jeffrey V. Lemire. Their company, Bradley Auto Wash Sales Inc., served as operators, installers, and distributors for Hanna and Whirley Car Wash Equipment. The family also manufactured self-service equipment known as the BAWSI Centrifugal System, designed by Roy L. Lemire, and displayed it at the 1977 ICA Convention in Chicago. At its peak, the family operated eight locations across Massachusetts and Connecticut. A 1969 newspaper clipping mentions the original Windsor Locks, Connecticut site, where a wash cost seventy-five cents and wax twenty-five cents. The buildings featured colorful bulbous roof lights and, in six-bay self-service setups, a W-shaped front meant to evoke the Whirley name. The family even considered a franchise model inspired by McDonald's arches.
