Agentic AI puts new pressure on identity and database security

Agentic AI puts new pressure on identity and database security

Security operations teams are changing their approach in the world of artificial intelligence, adopting automation to turn signals into outcomes while maintaining the right context and control.

This transition is complicated by a need to identify the proper role for AI, finding the right blend of human tradecraft and autonomous decision-making. Database security providers such as Oracle Corp. are working with customers to support AI innovation, particularly with the adoption of agentic AI, without compromising data security.

“Customers are leaning in,” said Johnnie Konstantas (pictured), group vice president, Oracle Cloud Engineering, at Oracle. “They understand that they have to automate where they can. It’s really understanding where the sensitive assets exist and … where in the company AI is being built, particularly agentic AI. That inventory is extremely important.”

Konstantas spoke with Dave Vellante at Oracle’s “AI Cyberattacks Are Escalating: How to Secure Your Data Now” event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed a growing focus on identity controls for AI agents and how Oracle’s solutions are keeping data protection current as AI-powered attacks evolve. (* Disclosure below.)

Security operations target agentic AI

As documented in theCUBE Research’s recent analysis of the Black Hat USA cybersecurity conference, the security industry is paying particular attention to AI agents and their growing role in enterprise operations. This is leading to a stronger focus on identity, according to Konstantas.

“Agentic AI brings to the fore this idea that an agent and several sub-agents functioning as a proxy of an individual can access data,” he told theCUBE. “So, identity takes on a new form in that the agent is kind of carrying those permissions along to access and maybe even take action on a certain workflow. Have good identity in place to the extent that you can have it be uniform and pervasive.”

Oracle has integrated agentic AI solutions into its security portfolio. Konstantas noted that the best solutions are often based on a customer’s data and how they want to secure it.

“I like to start with customers with what’s in it for them rather than the Oracle solution,” Konstantas said. “What are you trying to accomplish? Where is your sensitive data? As we look at the data itself, there’s a whole spate of capabilities that we’ve introduced, particularly with the latest version of … the AI database, that are specifically geared toward agentic AI.”
