Exclusive: Procurement startup Fragment launches with $56M

Procurement startup Fragment is exiting stealth with $56 million raised, CEO Pranav Mulgund tells Axios Pro exclusively.
Why it matters: Tariff changes and supply chain disruptions are making direct procurement even more difficult for manufacturers.
Zoom in:8VC led the Series A portion, while General Catalyst and A* co-led the seed round. Roelof Botha, former head of Sequoia, is also an investor.
How it works: Fragment says its AI agents and Autonomous Context Engine work across the disparate data systems manufacturers use and tries to resolve purchasing and payment issues.
The San Francisco-based startup, founded in 2025, is selling to dozens of Fortune 1000 customers.
What's next: Fragment is focused on direct procurement for now, but its context engine could be used for other enterprise workflows, Mulgund says.
"We are starting to see demand in other directions as well," Mulgund adds, declining to be more specific.
Follow the money: If the company hits its "aggressive" 2027 revenue goals, it could look for new funding.
"There have been discussions (about a new round) but not by us," Mulgund says.
