The Cullen Foundation was founded on March 31, 1947, and marked its 75th anniversary in 2022. It has invested in nonprofit organizations that have helped build Houston into a city with strong communities and better opportunities for underserved populations.
The Cullen Foundation was established in 1947 by Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen to support cultural arts, education, health care and public service in Texas, primarily in the greater Houston area. Cullen family members serve as Foundation directors.
Hugh Roy Cullen was born in Denton County, Texas, on July 3, 1881, to Cicero and Louise Beck Cullen. Hugh Roy Cullen was the grandson of Ezekiel Wimberly Cullen, who came from Georgia to Texas in 1835.
