Overview

The LiteLLM gateway is an open-source router and proxy that lets applications call large language model APIs from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, and Cohere through a single OpenAI-format interface. It ships as a Python SDK and a self-hosted server, with routing, load balancing, fallbacks, and spend management built in.

The gateway is distributed under an MIT license and is commonly self-hosted by platform teams that want control over multi-provider model access. A commercial enterprise tier adds administration, security, and support capabilities on the same core.
