Open Cosmos confirms that 192 satellites will form the core of its ConnectedCosmos low Earth orbit connectivity constellation. It targets more than 96 satellites in orbit by end-2028, global coverage by 2030, and its next launch before the end of 2026.
Open Cosmos announced a €300 million funding round led by Lightrock to accelerate real-time intelligence and connectivity from space. ETF Partners, Institut Català de Finances (ICF), Entrepreneurs First, Convex Group, NSSIF, Phoenix Court and Claret Capital Partners also participated. The funding will expand satellite manufacturing and the company’s ConnectedCosmos, OpenConstellation and DataCosmos services.
Open Cosmos raises $348 million (€300 million) in a funding round led by Lightrock, reaching a valuation above $1 billion. The British small-satellite specialist plans to use the funding to expand production facilities and upgrade its space-based intelligence and connectivity services.
Open Cosmos is selected by the UK Government Commercial Agency as an approved supplier in Lot 2 (Systems) of the TacSys (RM6393) framework. The procurement vehicle is worth up to £8 billion and runs to June 2034. Under the framework, Open Cosmos will provide low Earth orbit satellite connectivity for secure communications for the UK Ministry of Defence.
