UBDI offers consumers a way to earn by selling anonymized personal-data insights to market researchers, whereas e-Rewards describes itself as a survey site that rewards members for their opinions; the difference is data-derived behavior versus direct survey responses.
UBDI said its studies often needed fewer than 1,000 participants to be statistically relevant to brands, distinguishing this participant requirement from those of other data-monetization efforts.
UBDI's co-founder and chief revenue officer linked granular study matching to the potential for less friction in finding study participants, saying its data could answer more than 70% of questions traditionally asked in surveys.
UBDI announced in December 2019 that it was launching out of beta with 4,000 members and more than 200 million verified data points.
UBDI provides an app through which individuals use personal data to participate in paid surveys and receive payment for their data. Its partner Digi.me stores connected account data in a user-controlled encrypted location.
UBDI’s Digi.me app gathers data from online accounts into one location, where it is encrypted and remains under the user’s control.
