Claude and ChatGPT can answer questions about startups from aVenture's records once you connect the aVenture MCP server. The assistant then reads real funding rounds, investors, people, and news. Here is one research session from start to finish.
Setup takes about two minutes. Add https://mcp.aventure.vc/mcp as a custom connector, sign in, and approve access. The MCP quickstart has the exact steps for ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, and Gemini CLI, and the MCP server and CLI launch post lists every setting. The free Essential plan works.
Step 1: Find the companies
Start with a description, the way you would brief an analyst:
Find seed and Series A fintech companies on aVenture that sell spend management software to small businesses.
The assistant uses aventure_search and returns matching companies with their websites. Search by description needs AI Plus or AI Pro. On the free plan, name the companies by website: "Read aVenture's profile for ramp.com."
Step 2: Read funding history
For each of those companies, summarize its funding history from aVenture: each round, its date and amount, and the total raised.
The assistant reads each company's rounds with aventure_read. These reads do not use one of your monthly profile views. Amounts stay in each round's currency, and a blank amount means it was not disclosed.
Step 3: See who invested
Who invested in Ramp's most recent round, and who led it?
Each round lists its investors and marks the lead investor.
Step 4: Follow the investors
Which other spend management companies has that lead investor backed?
The assistant reads the firm's portfolio. This shows which companies the investor already holds in the same market.
Step 5: Keep watching
Alert me on aVenture when there is news about any of these companies.
News alerts are free on every plan. They arrive as in-app notifications, or as a signed webhook if you set one up. You can also subscribe from the CLI with aventure news subscriptions subscribe.
When an answer looks short
Long answers are sometimes trimmed to fit the assistant's context. If a funding history looks incomplete, ask for the missing rounds by year, for example "List Ramp's funding rounds from 2022 on aVenture."
What the assistant can and cannot do
The aVenture connector has five tools: aventure_lookup, aventure_search, aventure_read, aventure_help, and aventure_job. None of them edit or delete aVenture records. When a company is missing or out of date, the assistant can request research through aventure_job.
Use the same data in a terminal
Developers and agents in Claude Code or Cursor can also use the CLI:
npm install --global @aventurevc/aventure-cli
aventure auth login
aventure entities lookup-exact get --url https://ramp.com
