Dutch Vannamei

Shrimp consumed in the Netherlands is almost entirely imported, frozen on long supply chains, and often farmed with antibiotics or pesticides. Dutch Vannamei serves Dutch consumers and food businesses that want locally produced seafood by raising Pacific whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) year-round in a closed, bio-secure indoor facility in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel.

The company differentiates itself from imported and pond-based shrimp production through its biofloc-based water recycling, a zero-discharge zero-waste design in which residual nutrients fertilize samphire, and farming without antibiotics or pesticides. Recognized by the Dutch food safety authority as an aquaculture production company, it positions itself in local short-supply-chain aquaculture alongside research collaboration with Wageningen University & Research.
