Marcus by Goldman Sachs is a digital consumer banking platform launched in 2016, named after founder Marcus Goldman. It currently offers high-yield online savings accounts and certificates of deposit through its website and mobile app, with FDIC insurance through Goldman Sachs Bank USA.
The platform has undergone significant restructuring since 2022: Goldman exited unsecured personal lending in January 2023, shelved plans for a Marcus checking account, and transferred its GM credit card portfolio to Barclays in 2024. The Apple Card partnership also ended. Marcus now focuses exclusively on savings and deposit products as part of Goldman's Asset & Wealth Management division, having abandoned its original ambition to become a full-service digital bank.
