Investigational wireless brain-computer interface designed to restore speech and computer control for people with motor impairment.
The Connexus Brain-Computer Interface is a fully implantable, wireless neurotechnology system intended to translate neural signals from the motor cortex into synthesized speech, text, and computer control. Its microelectrode array records activity from individual neurons to support high-rate communication for people who have lost speech and motor function from conditions such as ALS, spinal cord injury, or stroke.
The system is implanted using established neurosurgical techniques and transmits data through a chest transceiver to an external device that also powers the implant inductively. External computing runs language models and neural decoding algorithms that convert recorded activity into intended communication, and the device is limited by United States law to investigational use in a clinical study.
