Implantable brain-computer interface with thousands of flexible electrode threads, enabling thought-based device control for paralyzed patients.
Neuralink's clinical applications program centers on the N1 Implant, an investigational brain-computer interface that records motor and speech cortex signals so people with paralysis or severe speech impairment can control devices through thought. Three registered trials advance this work: PRIME (NCT06429735) targets computer control for quadriplegia from spinal cord injury or ALS, CONVOY (NCT06710626) extends that to robotic arm control, and VOICE (NCT07224256) decodes intended speech for people with ALS, stroke, or spinal cord injury.
Participants must be at least 22 years old, have a consistent caregiver, and meet condition-specific function criteria. Neuralink accepts worldwide applications through its Patient Registry, with an enrollment process taking approximately seven minutes. The first human received the N1 Implant in January 2024, with subsequent implants performed at Barrow Neurological Institute, the University of Miami, and UT Southwestern Medical Center.
