Minimally invasive cortical interface that records and stimulates at the brain's surface without penetrating tissue.
The Layer 7 Cortical Interface is a thin-film electrode array placed beneath the scalp through a micro-slit incision, designed to conform to the surface of the brain without penetrating it. Its high-density electrodes both record and stimulate, supporting bidirectional communication that translates neural activity into commands for digital devices.
The array carries 1,024 electrodes on a flexible film roughly the size of a postage stamp and connects wirelessly, with a design intended for safe removal, replacement, and placement of multiple arrays. The device has been used in clinical study patients, with arrays produced in the company's in-house MEMS fabrication facility.
