Managed Vitess for horizontally sharded MySQL workloads, with built-in connection pooling and non-blocking schema changes.
PlanetScale Vitess is a managed database service built on the open-source Vitess project, originally developed at YouTube. It enables MySQL databases to scale horizontally through explicit sharding, distributing data across thousands of nodes while presenting as a single logical database to applications.
The service includes VTGate for query routing and connection pooling, VTTablet for mediating MySQL communication, and automated failover with minimal application impact. It is Kubernetes-native and powers databases for Slack, GitHub, HubSpot, Etsy, and other large-scale properties.
