Willapa Wild farms oysters on Willapa Bay in Washington for retail, wholesale, and direct buyers who want shellfish raised with minimal disturbance to the estuary. Conventional oyster harvesting often relies on dredging, which tears up the bay floor, uproots eelgrass, and sweeps up other marine life along with the catch; the company instead cultivates oysters in off-bottom racks and baskets and hand-harvests on-bottom beds, so habitat stays intact through each harvest cycle.
Its differentiation is regenerative farming: rather than merely sustaining conditions, the operation works to restore eelgrass meadows and rebuild the bay's native Olympia oyster population, which it preserves without selling commercially, while marketing its Pacific oysters through its own Oysterville Sea Farms farm store, guided farm tours, wholesale restaurant channels, and regional grocers.
