Eclipse Cyclone DDS implements the OMG Data Distribution Service specification together with the DDSI-RTPS interoperability and DDS Security protocols, emphasising low latency, a small footprint, and tunable quality-of-service for enterprise and embedded systems. The project reports heritage from military command-and-control work and targets deployments where deterministic real-time data access and safety certifiability matter.

Hosted as an Eclipse IoT project under the Eclipse Distribution License and Eclipse Public License, it is maintained by an open community and interoperates with other compliant DDS vendors over RTPS. In Robot Operating System 2 deployments it is the principal alternative middleware implementation, which is why teams evaluating robotics publish-subscribe middleware compare the two directly.
