The loans are originated by partner banks Cross River Bank and Column N.A. and are commonly used for debt consolidation, credit-card refinancing, home improvement, and other major expenses.

A secured variant lets borrowers pledge home fixtures as collateral in exchange for a rate reduction marketed as the Homeowner Discount. The product is the flagship offering of Best Egg, Inc., a direct-to-consumer personal lending platform now managed by Barclays US Consumer Bank.
