DEICON builds active tuned mass dampers (ATMDs) by adding a controllable actuator to a tuned mass damper. Active control widens the damping bandwidth, allows self-tuning, and lets one device damp several vibration modes instead of one passive unit per mode, which matters where a passive damper sized for a high-rise would weigh hundreds of tonnes.

Active mass dampers (AMDs) drop the springs and dampers entirely, coupling a mass to the structure through a long-stroke actuator; a 20,000 lb unit uses an AC servo motor driving a ball screw. DEICON also offers an active TMD switchable to passive that reverts to a passive device under moderate loading or on power loss.
