DEICON's semi-active air-suspended tuned mass damper re-tunes its stiffness and damping in software with no hardware change.
DEICON's Semi-active Air-Suspended Tuned Mass Damper uses air springs as both the resilient element and the damping element, introducing viscous damping through a micro-controller that regulates air flow in and out of the springs. No full-authority actuator and no separate physical damper are used.
Because tuning and re-tuning happen in software, the device stays optimally tuned as a structure's dynamics drift, and self-tuning can be built into the controller. It can be configured as a horizontal or inverted pendulum or as a translational spring-mass system, and doubles as a dynamic absorber.
